At last, a move on al Hilaly.

A new organisation claiming to be representative of politically moderate Muslims has been established. Its aim is to supplant the temporising Australian Federation of Islamic Councils and their honorary Mufti, Sheik al Hilaly.

The organisation is called Darul Fatwa, or the Islamic High Council of Australia, and claims membership of 20 organisations, according to its spokesman who was interviewed on Auntie's Religion Report this morning.

The development was reported earlier in The Australian.

Needless to say al Hilaly's spokesman, Keysar Trad, is furious. His boss is "the voice of moderation", Trad says.

AFIC is also cross. God alone knows where it will all end.
