EUROPE'S SPINE IS LOCATED ON ITS EAST SIDE

Poland's prime minister designate Marek Belka has signalled that Polish troops would remain in Iraq despite growing calls for the soldiers to leave the war-shattered country.

"A particular interest should be paid to completing the mission in Iraq with success," Mr Belka said.

His predecessor Leszek Miller, who stepped down hours earlier, call for Polish troops leave Iraq as soon as possible, but only under a joint agreement with the US-led coalition.
