A GIANT STEP FORWARD: The Washington Post reports today that the two largest Iraqi militia groups--the Kurdish peshmerga and the Badr Brigade of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI)--will stand down. The devil is in the details here, but this is a massive development: The Iraqis in control of these militias have accepted the principle of unified, national armed forces.
ABC news hasn't heard of it.
